About Our Collaborator:
SylBaak Hill is an otherworldly, clandestine garden created by a Hong Kong indie art collective of the same name. In this garden, its permanent residents; a penguin, owl, black cat, lobster, and an egg explore themes of world culture, history, folklore, fauna and flora.
Among their gallery of creations, their series of mechanical paper models, and illustrations have won multiple Hong Kong and European design awards.
The Deck
Tree worship occupies an important position in many prehistoric religions which then develops into an important part of their succeeding mythologies. This deck of cards uses trees as an element connecting Eastern and Western mythology, including the Nordic world tree, the sacred Greek hollyhock and oak, the olive tree representing victory, etc. Japan also has a number of sacred trees connected to gods, and the Fusang tree is one of the sacred places in Chinese mythology and connected to the sun goddess. Trees have become an important element of world culture.
